With UPGRADES 3.1 I wanted to create a book with musically attractive etudes that are relatable to young
people today. Each piece addresses specific technical and musical challenges that it is necessary for a
classical pianist to master. The technical side of each study is always linked to an accessible subject and
UPGRADES 3.1 builds up in terms of difficulty, with the preparatory exercises forming an ideal starting point.
These exercises serve a duel purpose: on the one hand, they offer a way of getting to know a piece from a
different angle. At the same time, they also integrate ways of addressing typical learner difficulties into the
pedagogical framework for piano teaching in a musical way.
